Pan-European Mapping Studies

We are delighted to present the executive summaries of four pan-European mapping studies that were commissioned by the Foundation. They review existing efforts to monitor incidents of antisemitism and racism and social action projects aimed at challenging and preventing prejudice. The mapping studies were completed in July 2007 and we hope that the summary reports will be useful for other funders, researchers and organizations active in the field of preventing prejudice and discrimination.

Monitoring

The study carried out by Peer Baneke and Bill Seary, freelance consultants with extensive experience in the governance and management of NGOs, summarized the nature, scope and focus of monitoring operations across Europe and posed the following questions:

To answer these questions, the study explored existing means used to gather data, the methodologies employed, the quality of the reports issued, and their impact on public policy.

Social Action

The three mapping studies sampled the activities of NGOs in Europe at the grassroots communal, national and pan-European levels. They were carried out by the Centre for Urban and Community Research at Goldsmiths College, London, the European Forum for Migration Studies at Bamberg University and Peer Baneke and Bill Seary, freelance consultants.

The researchers identified and studied the following specific areas of primary importance:

» Social Action on legislation executive summary » Social Action in education executive summary » Social Action interfaith and cultural activities executive summary

Please note: Any views expressed in the studies are those of the authors and not those of The Rothschild Foundation (Europe).

These summaries are not exhaustive and therefore are not meant to serve as databases. Any lists of NGOs and official bodies active in the field included in the studies are only a small selection of such organizations.
